1. Summary
- Where
- Zoom (link will be sent to the registered participants)
- When
- March 26, 2026, 11 AM – 1 PM EST for the workshop and 1:30 – 3:30 PM EST for the hackathon
- What
- In this remote-based workshop/hackathon, we will teach participants step-by-step how to use our large-language-model-(LLM)-empowered Auto-BIDSify — a fully automated neuroimaging data standardization framework that integrates semantic reasoning with rule-based execution to convert heterogeneous neuroimaging files into BIDS datasets. Using examples, we will show participants how to set up AutoBIDSify, prepare your source data folders, and run a fully automated end-to-end data conversion pipeline to create BIDS-compatible dataset packages. We will primarily use Jupyter Notebook to give interactive demos and allow participants to use it as a playground for converting diverse data files, including your lab-specific datasets.
- Registration fee
- Zero! This workshop is free to all researchers! We thank the funding support from the NIH/NINDS under Award# U24-NS124027.
- What do you need
- A laptop that can be connected to the Internet using Wi-Fi/cable.
- How to register
- Limited seats are available. Please register using this link.
2. Event agenda
2.1.1. Training Workshop (11 AM – 1 PM EST / 4 PM – 6 PM CET)
In the training workshop portion, we will use organized-prepared datasets and pre-made Jupyter Notebook to teach participants how to setup, configure and use AutoBIDSify for converting arbitrary input data files to produce BIDS compatible packages.
Agenda: (~2 hours)
- Welcome and NeuroJSON Data Resources Overview (~5 min) - Qianqian Fang
- Browsing and Downloading Datasets at NeuroJSON.io (~10 min) - Elaine Fan
- AutoBIDSify Demo and Training - Rose Liu
2.1.2. Break (1:00 PM – 1:30 PM EST)
Taking an half-hour break, and come back to the same Zoom link
2.1.3. Hackathon (1:30 PM – 3:30 PM EST / 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM CET)
In the hands-on hackathon portion, we will assign each participant an assistant and guide them step-by-step in converting their lab-specific datasets (if one does not have lab dataset to convert, you may choose from a list of public datasets to further practices AutoBIDSify data conversion pipeline)
Agenda: (~2 hours)
- Hackathon Kick-off (~10 min): objectives, schedule, grouping, assistant assignments, and feedback note-taking - Qianqian Fang
- Hands-on Session 1 (30 min) - all participants will be divided into smaller groups, and be placed in break-our rooms alongside with their assigned assistant. Each participant starts using AutoBIDSify/NeuroJSON tools to convert datasets from your own lab (if you don't have one, we will provide a list of public fNIRS datasets, from which you will select one to work on), and perform the conversion under the guidance from the assistant of your group. Report all issues encountered in the conversion process to the developers.
- Campfire Session 1 (10 min) - all participants return to the main zoom session and report progress and discuss 1) issues/bugs encountered, 2) wish list, and 3) potential workaround
- Hands-on Session 2 (30 min) - return to the breakout room and continue working on the dataset
- Campfire Session 2 (10 min) - gather again, update progress and share experience and feedback
- Hands-on Session 3 (30 min) - return to the breakout room and continue working on the dataset
- Final campfire session (10 min) - assess completion status and uploading datasets (if ready)
